Yesterday? Today? Tomorrow?

Can I become aware of God's presence here, now?

Can I recognize God in the ordinary place, in this ordinary looking people around me?

Conservative - is that me?

I recently listened to a podcast in which Andrew Sullivan - The Daily Dish - defined a conservative.  My understanding of what he said is that a conservative:

  • Desires a government that is limited - but is necessary.
  • Wants to keep the separation of powers - we keep the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of government separate.  That doesn't mean to sign a bill into law and immediately follow-up the signing with a signing statement.  In which the signing statement effectively states this law can be ignored.  If the president doesn't like the bill, veto it.  Since when did the executive branch become part of the legislative branch of government?
  • Desires a balanced budget where appropriate - need I say more.
  • Wants a prudent foreign policy - one in which we don't preemptively attack sovereign governments because we had a vision they are bad.
  • Desires a strong defense - key word is defense not offense.
  • Policies should be governed by a pragmatic political and civil discourse.

Do our current political leaders have the same definition?

Unjustifiable

You cannot punish a crime with another crime.

The death sentence is a crime.  Although the state who does the sentencing, but the state is not the owner of the life of its' citizens.

Life is a gift from the moment of conception to the natural end of life.

The death sentence is not the natural end.  Because John Paul II in Encyclical Evangelium vitae said, today society has all the means to render a criminal innocuous without applying the death sentence.

Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things...

Lk 10:38-42

As I try to pray, where are my heart and my thoughts now?   Can I hear Jesus say to me that you have need of only one thing?  What is that one thing in my life, right now, right here?

Love?  A calm heart?  Peace of mind?  Hearing the Lord calling out to me?

Am I too busy with other things, anxious, worried, or distracted?  Can I ask the Lord to help me hear whenever he speaks to me?

N. Korea's Kim - Scary!!!

Link to Yahoo! News Photo This isn't Boo type of scary!  This is kaboom type of scary as in Kim Nuke'm.

Woe to you...

Today's Gospel (Lk 10:13-16) message should give us time to pause.  Jesus says to his friends, his disciples, whoever listens to you listens to me.  How would you feel if right now Jesus said the same thing to you or me?

Will I speak the words that are True?

Will my actions be those that are Good and Honorable?

Am I able to be God's word incarnate in my actions?

Will I pray for those who harbor ill will toward me?  Or will I grow indignant toward them?

How will you and I act today?

RoamEO GPS system tracks your pet - Engadget

Here is a gadget for pet tracking, but what about human patients - hospitals, nursing homes, Alzheimer/dementia, cognitively delayed, etc.  If they wonder away from where they are suppose to be, wouldn't it be nice to know where they are.

Dumb things people do that can mess up their lives

I'm taking this from the article linked below.   This is my adaptation of that article to real-life from geek.

  1. Have a plan and be willing to overcome changes or problems.
  2. Listen to the warning signs - things barely just happen without some sort of sign appearing first.  My brakes are squeaking should I:
    • Ignore it?
    • Turn the radio up?
    • Make sure the brakes are in good running order?
  3. Write it down.  When you change something important tell others and write it down.  Note:  Mom I took the car.  Is simpler than explaining to the officer, no really this is my parent's car.
  4. If you have information beyond its' useful life - get rid of it.  Lawyers and IRS agents don't want to go through extra reams of paper they don't have to.
  5. Apply updates in a timely manner.  Whether it is your car being recalled, furnace maintenance, computer software update, or a headache.
  6. If it is a minor update let someone else be the guinea pig.  Wait.  Oh yes doctor, I want the latest botox treatment - not.
  7. Keep secrets, secret.  Do you tell everyone your MasterCard number?  Nope.
  8. Please everyone?  You can't other just want to argue.  Stand up for what you believe in.  Be Good, Honorable and True.
  9. Please no one?  Just as bad a #8.  I know a few of these types.   Hmmm, the word jerk comes to mind.
  10. Tell others, especially the important "others", how to do what you just did.  You never know when you won't be around to get something fixed or to get something done.  This goes with #3 above.

In our journey this day,

keep us Father in your way.

In seeking all of His vision truths,
keep us Savior close to you.

In our desire to do Your will,
keep us Spirit guide us still.

In our striving to be free,
keep and help us, Blessed Trinity.

Let me make this my prayer today,
to know God's closeness to me,
here, right now, and never to loose sight of it.
To let myself be loved, enlivened and guide by God.

Nos Autem Gloriari

We should glory in nothing other than the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ, in whom is our salvation, life, and resurrection. Through Him we are saved and set free.

May God have mercy upon us and bless us,
May He make his face shine upon us,
and be merciful to us.
Amen.

Prayer from St. Thomas Aquinas

Grant me oh Lord my God
A mind to know You,
A heart to seek You,
Wisdom to find You,
Conduct pleasing to You,
Faithful perseverance in waiting for You,
and a hope of finally embracing You,
Amen.

Humbly we walk Grace

The more we know the more we are amazed.

So modest and so humble, the more we know the more we are amazed. This is approach we need to take in our daily lives. This is our path, journey through life toward a deeper relationship with God!

Something I always was wondering was what does "GRACE" mean. Maybe others of have contemplated the same. It was recently explained to me this way: God's Grace - gratis - free love! We have been loved into being. God loved us first, that is why we exist! He loved me that is why I am!

A little while...

I waited and waited upon the Lord and he heard my plea.

Do all things happen in our time or in God's time. We want the Lord to hurry and answer our prayers when we want it. The Lord knows when things are suppose to happen. Not by our perseption of time, but my God's time.

There is hope in doing things in God's time.

Pray for patience, to wait on God, to wait a little while.

Wait and listen! Where is that little voice of consolation pointing us, yesterday, today, and tomorrow?

Glory be to God!

Stop and Think and Consider

To much information is being thrown at us from all directions. Newspapers, TV, radio, and the web 24-hours a day, 365-days a year. With this pace of information we don't have time to pause. Pause to think what was value to me, to you, to us, to our world.
  • What does this mean to us?
  • What are the ramficiations?
  • Why should I care?

Take a step back to analyze, to get the clear picture of what this means. All this stuff being thrown at us is just stuff if we don't have the understanding or context of this information.

What is the value to us?

70% of the world is covered in water (I don't know if that is right or not). So what does that mean to us? Does that mean we are a world of islands? In what context? Transportation issues? What does that mean.

With all the news flowing toward us every minute, take time to Stop and Think and Consider what is important to us, what does it mean, should I take an action?

Dark or Light we all decide!

That we do what is true come to the light so that it may clearly be seen that their deeds have been done in God.

That when we do things in the dark we have something to hide. Something that they are not proud of performing.

But those that do things that are true do such things in the light!

The darkness & the light, are the things in my life that I think of, say, or do that make me proud of or not proud? Are these things I have control over good, honorable, and true?

To multitask or not to multitask that is the question

How do people do that?

Sometimes I just am awe of those people who multi-task over everything! Maybe I'm just slow, but I'd rather do one thing well and 20 things so-so.

Last evening I was at a track meet and saw some very awesome performances. That, to me, shows that those that train and become accomplished in one thing can perform excellently in that item. Those that spread themselves out over to many events seemed to do something ok and other things better.

Principles of life

To be born again in all aspects of life is more of a metaphorical idea. That is aren't we all suppose to make choices through our lives that are:

  • Good
  • Honorable &
  • True

Part of being human is that we make mistakes. Some of the things I do might not appear to be good, but I strive to have goodness in all I do. I realize that I put to much pressure on others all because I feel anxious that they should do this or that. I'm sure all things will be done in God's own time. I have to put my trust in God.

That leads me being honorable. It is not just something said be to be truthful to what you believe, say, and live. This is hard, but I believe it is something worth the effort.

That flows into being true to oneself through being true to others that surround you, and to God.
